FACILITY INFORMATION

Since 1931, Lawson House has provided safe, affordable housing for people in transition. Today, it is the largest single-room occupancy (SRO) supportive housing facility in the Midwest, providing housing and wrap-around social services for extremely low-income or formerly homeless men and women.

"Lawson House brings an incredible tradition of commitment to service, and we are proud to be working with the facility and their staff to help residents continue on the path to self-sufficiency," said Wylie Belasik, vice president of programming for Back on My Feet. 

Lawson House is open to men and women. It offers furnished private rooms with community, shared or private baths. Every room comes with a microwave oven, a mini-refrigerator, a ceiling fan and all utilities. Other features include:

* 24-hour security
* Air-conditioned resident lounge
* Easy access to CTA’s Red, Brown and Purple lines and many bus routes
* On-site laundry facilities
* Resident computer lab
* Free fitness privileges at partner YMCAs

Lawson House provides several other on-site services, including:
* Denny Primary Care and Preventive Medicine Center – An affiliate of Northwestern Memorial Hospital providing free medical care to all residents
* Life Development Center – Case managers connecting residents to job training, life skills development, counseling, transportation assistance and more
* Mental Health Services – Outpatient mental health clinic and emergency housing programs, provided by Northwestern Memorial
* Food Pantry – Food assistance for low-income residents
* Clothes Closet – Appropriate attire for job interviews, cold weather more

Meeting Location: 30 W. Chicago Ave. Chicago, IL  [Map here]
When do we run?: We start at 5:45 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday and finish by 7 a.m. Saturday runs start at 7 a.m. from the same location.
How long are runs?: Two to five miles, with longer runs occurring on Saturdays

FEATURED CHAPTER MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL 2012: TODD

Todd joined the YMCA Lawson House Back on My Feet team in October 2011, and quickly developed a passion for running. While Todd had always been an athlete, running was a new sport for him. He quickly adapted and is now one of the YMCA's fastest team members! Since joining the YMCA Lawson House Back on My Feet team, he has accrued over 300 miles while maintaining a stellar 95% attendance rate at morning runs.
